The WG's are the international tools for promoting and coordinating activity
among those who are interested in a specific and related subarea of our
field of science - like within photogrammetry and remote sensing, computer
vision, mathematics, archaeology, or etc.
-
It is most desired that we have participation in various WG's, not in all
possible, but in those, whose focus we join. A WG is the way to get face
to face information, and the way to learn people and colleagues while being
active in the daily work.
-
One further motivation - not that often cared - is to aggregate somebody
else to work in your own research field. It will not be easy, as people
appear at first glance most likely rather reluctant than open in their
inmost thoughts. Note that it does not mean that you should either give
your own ideas to someone else, but you at least have the possibility to
talk with someone - and to be responded as well!
-
Within ISPRS the WG's officially have their terms from congress to congress.
However, practically they also continue if they keep vivid.
-
The WG's are the ones which prepare sessions for the congresses. They may
also organize symposia and smaller workshops, alone or together with other
WG's.
-
The activity of a WG depends fully of its members' activity. Without WG's
there would be hardly anything which would gain scientific interest in
the congresses.
-
It is strongly recommended that we have participation in WG's.
