SURFACE MATCHING FOR PEDICLE SCREW INSERTION WITH MINIMAL INVASION

Objective

The objective of the project is to develop an accurate method for the insertion of pedicle screws into spinal vertebrae with minimal invasion. The main scientific tasks are firstly, the extraction of the bone surface from an intraoperative ultrasound image of a vertebra covered by soft tissue and secondly, the registration of the intraoperative ultrasound image and a preoperative computed tomography image using surface matching techniques.
